The King’s Coronation news & more

Among the first special stamps of the reign of King Charles III is one bearing a sweet pea.

The sweet pea was one of Queen Elizabeth II’s favorite flowers.

His Majesty chose to place a posy of them on his desk for his first speech

following his accession in September 2022.

My notes:

As you can see and read, everything has a meaning.

I have to say, I MISSED THE SWEET PEAS on the King’s desk

for his first speech.

King Charles III Coronation

The King’s coronation will take place on May 6, 2023.

King Charles III will wear the Imperial State Crown as he leaves Westminster Abbey following his Coronation.

The crown, which weighs 2.6 pounds, contains 2,868 diamonds 17 sapphires and 11 emeralds.

Personal notes:

I am looking forward to his coronation in May because I met the King

when he was a Prince.

I’m sure it’s unbelievable to most but it really happened.

I met a prince who is now going to be crowned THE KING.

Something out of a fairy tale?

No, it was all business!

You see I was working for a major department store chain as head of special events.

My job was to create, plan and execute events that would attract customers into

the stores, which added sales to the cash registers.

However, the higher ups in the company dropped this surprise event in my lap.

It took place back in the 1970’s.

The Queen herself could not come to California, so she sent her son, Prince Charles.

I was the lucky one who was chosen to escort Prince Charles to the reception

which was planned for him. When I say “escorted”, it was a short walk from

the escalator to the reception door.

The Prince and I exchanged pleasantries as he walked along side of me.

I found him to be charming, as he should be as a Prince.

He spoke and walked with a sense of caring, not being pretentious.

When we arrived at the reception door, he graciously stood to one side

and allowed me to enter first. But I shook my head and politely declined.

“No, this is where I leave you.” I smiled at the Prince. He looked confused

but quickly realized that I was not attending the party.

I had done my duty; my job was over for that memorable short time with a Prince.

For those who are wondering, no, I did not curtsey.

We were told by our Ambassy in Los Angeles,

American citizens do not have to curtsey

to Royalty.
