The Yellow Rose Saga #60

Caroline and the girls and Jimmie-John were having lunch at

a Fondue Café down the street from the hotel when her phone kept

buzzing showing text messages from The Agency in Washington D.C.

Caroline decided not to answer any messages or calls until she had spoken with James.

She send a text message to James:

WHERE ARE YOU, MY LOVE?

CAROLINE

James and Sam were just finishing lunch at the ski lodge when Caroline’s

message came through to him.

“Well, fun is over, Sam. Duty calls.”

“Oh, does Caroline need something?”

“Yes, let’s go find her.”

James text Caroline back and said he and Sam were on

their back to the hotel.

Caroline ‘s text back to James:

Meet me at the Fondue restaurant.

Caroline

James and Sam made their way down the slopes and turned in their skis

and were walking back to town to meet Caroline.

Once they found the Fondue place, the children were delighted

to see the two walking through the front door.

“Daddy, my Mom is upset. That phone of hers keeps buzzing.”

“Jimmie-John, your Mom is very popular.”

The first words out of Caroline’s mouth were, “Just please tell me you didn’t do it.”

“Do what?”

“You know what I’m talking about. The Agency has been texting me for over an hour about the accident on the slopes this morning.”

Caroline didn’t want to speak freely in front of the children.

The phone kept buzzing and Caroline just looked down at it.

Jimmie-John decided to take matters in his own hands. He picked up the

the phone and ran out of the restaurant with it. James was in pursue

of Jimmie-John and the phone but before he could reach him, Jimmie-John throw the phone down on a snowy area, disappearing into the white snow.

“Why did you do that to your Mom’s phone?”

“Because.”

“Because, why?”

“It was making her upset. All of that buzzing and the look

on my Mom’s face. I hate that phone.”

“Jimmie-John, you can’t throw the phone away and think it will make

your mom happy. I should have been here to help you, I’m sorry for that.

Now, they won’t find that phone until Spring sometime.  Come on,

let’s tell your Mom about her phone. And young man, you will have to use your Christmas money from Aunt Beatrice to buy her a new phone.”

“Oh, no, not my money.”

“Yes, we will use your money.”

Walking back in the café, Jimmie-John had a long look on his face and told his mom what he did and that he was sorry.

Caroline hugged Jimmie-John.

“Daddy, said I had to buy you a new phone with my Christmas money.”

“Your Dad and I will talk about, later. Let’s go back to the hotel and finish packing. You are flying back to Texas tonight with your cousins.”

The twins didn’t say much during all of this but they could see that

their Dad and Mom were going to have a fight, soon.

Sam walked with the three children back to the hotel and let Caroline and James walked behind to discuss the situation.

“James, you didn’t shoot Hans did you?”

“Of course not. Why would I do that? Sam and I were out skiing the entire morning. You can ask him.”

“That’s what Washington wants to know; who shot Hans and why.”

“Maybe, they think you shot Hans.”

Sam and James skied,The Alps, most of the morning

and having the best time in a very long time.

It gave them

the opportunity to be alone, without children,

and just relax.

They didn’t know when they would have

another chance like this so they took full advantage of this time.

They ended up at the ski lodge about noon,

out of breath, just with big smiles of their faces.

“Well, James, tomorrow you will be in sunny and warm

Barbados with your beautiful wife.”

“Don’t I know it, Sam.

I’m so in love with Caroline.

I don’t know why I waited so long to marry her.”

“Like I’ve said to you so many times, LUCKY GUY.”

“Thanks, Sam. Yes, I am.

Look over there, what’s the crowd of

people doing over there by the old barn.”

“Let’s check it out.

Must have been an accident. I see the ski patrol

with an ambulance.”

Sam and James skied over to the site,

they saw a man being lifted into the ambulance.

It was Hans Brown.

“Sam, isn’t that Hans?”

“Sure looks like him”

James got close enough to Hans to ask him what happened.

Hans was in pain but managed to say,

“I was shot.”

Sam arrived at the suite to pick up James for some skiing before leaving for Barbados in the evening.

“Hello Sam. Last day to ski, have fun.”

“Thanks, Caroline, hope you are not upset about us skiing

this morning without you.”

It’s fine with me, I don’t ski any way. I don’t like the cold.

I’m staying inside today.”

Sam walked into the bedroom to find James.

A few minutes later, Caroline knocked on the bedroom door

before she entered and she saw James putting on his gun under his ski clothes.

“Expecting trouble or planning something?”

“Maybe, a little of both. You never know. Those mountain

areas can be dangerous.”

James and Sam said good-bye to Caroline and James kissed

Caroline, “Don’t worry, we will be fine.”

“I hope so, James. I don’t want to be a widow.”

“Come on,Caroline, nothing’s going happen to us. Have a wonderful day with the girls and Jimmie-John.”

“I love you, James” As Caroline kissed James for the second time while standing at the door.

In the morning, Caroline and James had room service before the twins and Jimmie-John arrived back at their suite.

“Ahh, the smell of morning coffee.”

“Yes, Caroline but I like you in the morning better.”

“James, you better get dressed before  the children come running in here. What are we doing today?”

“I was planning on skiing with Sam. Is that okay with you? It’s our last day on the slopes.”

“That’s fine with me. I’ll spend sometime with the girls and Jimmie-John. We need to get them packed for their trip home tonight.”

Before long the twins and Jimmie-John were running into the suite

and jumping on the couple’s bed.

“Good morning. How are all of you doing this morning? You know that today is our last day in Switzerland.”

“We know, Aunt Beatrice told us, Daddy.”

“Good, because I’m skiing with Sam this morning and you all are  going to pack for your trip home.”

“Are we all going home to Texas?” Jimmie-John asked.

“The three of you are going to Texas where you will stay with your

Aunt Julia and Uncle Jesse.”

“Where are you and Mommy are going?” Jimmie-John asked.

“We are going our honeymoon.”

“Can’t we all go?”

Blair explained to Jimmie-John what a honeymoon was all about

and that seemed to satisfy all of the children’s questions.

Running out of the room to get their things together, Caroline asked James, “You didn’t tell me where we are going tonight?”

“I was saving it as a surprise.”

“When do I get to know?”

“Do you want to know now?”

“Yes, that would be a good idea. Tell me, my love, where are we going?”

“Barbados.”

“Really? That’s very romantic. You really do surprise me sometimes.”

“Happy?”

“Yes, very happy.”

As James came over to the bed and kissed Caroline.

“Don’t get me started, James. You have plans to go skiing

and the children are close by.”

“I’ll close the door, Caroline.”

wedding gift

Their first evening together as husband and wife, James slipped Caroline’s Wedding gift under her pillow.

“James, this necklace is lovely. I want to put it on right now, please help me.”

“It looks beautiful on you. May I have this dance?”

James and Caroline waltzed around the bedroom without music…they were making their own.

The wedding reception was over and the children were spending the night at the James’ home with their cousins and Aunt Beatrice.

Caroline and James made their way to his suite for the night.

Bowman was on guard at the entrance to the suite and greeted the couple with, “Congratulations you two. It was a very nice wedding.”

“Thank you, Bowman.”

“Shall I open the door for you, Congressman?”

James laughed and responded with, a yes, because he wanted to carry Caroline over the threshold.

“Ahh, James you are so romantic.”

“It’s just another tradition, Caroline.”

“I like these traditions, more and more.”

Once inside the suite, James said, “You

have ten minutes, my love.”

“Why James, we have been married less than 24 hours and you have slowed down already. You use to be able to get your tuxedo off in five minutes or less.”

“Caroline, I’m giving you the extra five minutes because of your condition.”

“Because I’m pregnant? R-e-a-l-l-y, James.”

“Ten minutes and your time starts, NOW.”

Caroline made a dash to the bedroom, to change into her French lingerie, just for James.

dinner

James walked back into the reception with Hans beside him. Caroline was surprised but followed James’ lead.

“Caroline, we have a guest for dinner.”

“Hans how nice of you to celebrate with us. Please sit by me.”

Hans kissed Caroline on both cheeks as the children watched in shock.

“Who’s that man, Daddy?” He’s kissing our new Mom.”

James reassured the children that Hans was an old, old friend of Miss Caroline. So, the children were satisfied and settled back and enjoyed the festivities.

The evening continued with serving of dinner, music and dancing.

Sam and James were standing at the back of the restaurant by the bar, when the band announced the Last Dance.

Sam looked over at James and said, “Feels like we have been here before.”

“You mean the Last Dance call?”

“Yes.”

You know Sam; we have stood at many a bar, in our time, with The Agency.”

“That’s  so true, but if you want to dance with your new wife, I suggest you better go get her now. That Hans is starting to make a move.”

“Excuse me Sam, I’ll be right back.”

James walked over to Caroline and Hans and said, “Excuse me Hans, but

Caroline always saves the Last Dance for me.”

Then Caroline and James made their way to the dance floor.

“Why James, I didn’t know I always saved the last dance for you?”

“Caroline, it’s the start of a new tradition.”

“I do like new traditions.”

The music played and the newlyweds dance the Last Dance together.

apple cheers

Hans Brown was surveying the room for James when a polite body guard asked him to step outside of the restaurant.

James and Sam made it to the door just as Hans was being escorted out.

“Oh, Mr. Jamison, maybe you can tell your body guard who I am.”

James signaled for the guard to halt, “Frankly, I don’t know who you really are Hans. Why are you appearing at our Wedding reception? Did you want to get a glance at my wife, one last time? We didn’t invite you and I don’t appreciate you trying to crash our party.”

“Mr. Jamison, I can a sure you, I meant no harm to you or Caroline. Can we talk in private?”

James looked around the restaurant for a place to talk in private with Hans. He and Sam quickly found a closed off room where they could be alone.

“Let’s go in here. This is Sam Houston, my best man and long time friend. I want him to hear what you have to say.”

“I think you got this all wrong. I should have introduced myself to you and Sam before this evening, but time got away from me. I apologize for that. The Agency sent me. They thought you needed extra help after the two incidents in Paris.”

“You are with the Agency?”

“Yes, I’m with the Stockholm office in Sweden. Here is my identification.” As Hans showed James his Agency badge.

“They knew of my past relationship with Caroline Clarke and they thought it would be easier to have me run into her in Switzerland. They also knew you were not going to contact The Agency in Washington, about the French contacting you, so I’m here to investigation what the French intelligence is planning. The Director sent me personally.

I don’t work in the field anymore, so maybe, I’m a little rusty working with Agents like you two. The Agency told me you are one of their top agents and they didn’t want anything to happen to you and Caroline while vacationing in Switzerland. Especially since the country is on high alert for a terrorist attack. They didn’t know you were getting married. It was a complete surprise to them.”

James was not surprised to hear some of this information, but he responded, “The wedding was a quick decision on Caroline’s and my part. But, it’s been a long time coming. I didn’t think I had to formally alert Washington of my marriage plans. You know I’m a U.S. Congressman from Texas, now.”

“Yes, I was told that. Did you want me to address you as Congressman Jamison?”

James wasn’t sure if he was being a smart SOB with that remark or what. But he wanted to get back to his wedding reception and his wife, Caroline at this point.

“So, now that you are here, Hans, why don’t you join us for dinner. I’m sure Caroline won’t mind. It’s not every wedding that has an ex-husband in attendance. Sam, can you tell the chef there will be another guest for dinner.”

Sam quickly left the room to follow James’ orders. He could see that James was trying to be polite to this Hans but he knew that James would rather shot him in the foot.

cake 2

Caroline and James made an entrance into their dinner party, late, but no one cared because the champagne and drinks were flowing.

Caroline’s dress was the star of the celebration.

The twins and Jimmie-John came running over to greet the couple.

“Miss Caroline, can we call you Mom, now?”

“Yes, you may, my loves.” Caroline kissed the girls and James picked up Jimmie-John as they made the way to their seats at the table.

“Daddy, did you see the wedding cake?”

“Oh, now I see it. Do you want dessert now?”

“James, please don’t tempt the girls. We are having dinner, first and then cake for dessert.”

“Caroline, you’re no fun.”

“James, please behave.” Caroline was teasing James in the same way that he does to her.

The children laughed at their Dad.

“Remember, Daddy, Mom’s rule,” Blair stated.

“I’m trying to be good but your mother is looking gorgeous tonight.”

“Our Mom is very pretty; now other men won’t look at her, because she’s married, right Daddy?”

“Yes, she beautiful but I only wish they will stop looking at her, Brooke.”

Just then James glanced at the doorway of the restaurant and saw Hans Brown standing there looking in his direction.

Sam saw Hans at the exact same time and asked James,

“Is he crashing the party or what?”

“I have no idea. Let’s see what he wants.”

wedding dinner

James and Caroline walked out, of the white chapel, as husband and wife, for the first time. They were all smiles, when Aunt Beatrice was the first to catch up with them.

She wanted to congratulate Caroline and James.

“You made me cry, you two, I’m so happy that James finally married you, Caroline.” Aunt Beatrice kissed Caroline on both cheeks, as she slipped a red envelope into James’ pocket.

“Thank you Aunt Beatrice, we are both glad you were here

to help us celebrate,” James said as he kissed her and

whispered, “Were you looking for my gun?”

Aunt Beatrice just laughed and replied, “I knew you won’t be carrying today for the wedding because it wasn’t going to be a shot gun wedding.”

“Thank you for the envelope, Aunty. But, it’s not necessary, we have everything we need. Bless you.”

Everyone took turns congratulating the couple on the steps of the chapel.

Sam announced that they should go back to the hotel for the wedding reception dinner.

“Well, let’s get going, I need a cocktail.” Aunt Beatrice took Sam arm and walked through the snow to get to the first limo. Sam helped Aunt Beatrice into the limo and told her, “There’s a full bar in here just for you, Aunty.”

“My, Bradley(Sam), I really like your style.”

The snow was very deep in places around the chapel, so James picked up Caroline to carry her to one of the limousines.

When they arrived back at the hotel, Caroline excused herself and went to her suite to change into a different dress for the reception. James along with Sam, patiently waited for Caroline to reappear. Sam poured James and himself a drink and congratulated him on his choice of making Caroline his wife.

With the help of Julia, Caroline was quickly ready in her new dress.

When Caroline appearance, in the suite, wearing her newest Paris creation, James was stunned, again, at her lovely new gown.

“oh,la,la, Mrs. Jamison. Maybe, we should skip the dinner and get right to the honeymoon.”

“And disappoint our guests, Mr. Jamison, no way. You will just have to wait until after dinner to have dessert.” As Caroline winked at him and pulled him towards her and kissed him.

“It’s getting a little hot in here. How about Julia and I leave you two here.”

“Oh, no Sam, we are right behind you. Come on Mr. Jamison, it’s not proper to leave the family waiting any longer.”

“Yes, dear.”
