Caroline and the girls and Jimmie-John were having lunch at
a Fondue Café down the street from the hotel when her phone kept
buzzing showing text messages from The Agency in Washington D.C.
Caroline decided not to answer any messages or calls until she had spoken with James.
She send a text message to James:
WHERE ARE YOU, MY LOVE?
CAROLINE
James and Sam were just finishing lunch at the ski lodge when Caroline’s
message came through to him.
“Well, fun is over, Sam. Duty calls.”
“Oh, does Caroline need something?”
“Yes, let’s go find her.”
James text Caroline back and said he and Sam were on
their back to the hotel.
Caroline ‘s text back to James:
Meet me at the Fondue restaurant.
Caroline
James and Sam made their way down the slopes and turned in their skis
and were walking back to town to meet Caroline.
Once they found the Fondue place, the children were delighted
to see the two walking through the front door.
“Daddy, my Mom is upset. That phone of hers keeps buzzing.”
“Jimmie-John, your Mom is very popular.”
The first words out of Caroline’s mouth were, “Just please tell me you didn’t do it.”
“Do what?”
“You know what I’m talking about. The Agency has been texting me for over an hour about the accident on the slopes this morning.”
Caroline didn’t want to speak freely in front of the children.
The phone kept buzzing and Caroline just looked down at it.
Jimmie-John decided to take matters in his own hands. He picked up the
the phone and ran out of the restaurant with it. James was in pursue
of Jimmie-John and the phone but before he could reach him, Jimmie-John throw the phone down on a snowy area, disappearing into the white snow.
“Why did you do that to your Mom’s phone?”
“Because.”
“Because, why?”
“It was making her upset. All of that buzzing and the look
on my Mom’s face. I hate that phone.”
“Jimmie-John, you can’t throw the phone away and think it will make
your mom happy. I should have been here to help you, I’m sorry for that.
Now, they won’t find that phone until Spring sometime. Come on,
let’s tell your Mom about her phone. And young man, you will have to use your Christmas money from Aunt Beatrice to buy her a new phone.”
“Oh, no, not my money.”
“Yes, we will use your money.”
Walking back in the café, Jimmie-John had a long look on his face and told his mom what he did and that he was sorry.
Caroline hugged Jimmie-John.
“Daddy, said I had to buy you a new phone with my Christmas money.”
“Your Dad and I will talk about, later. Let’s go back to the hotel and finish packing. You are flying back to Texas tonight with your cousins.”
The twins didn’t say much during all of this but they could see that
their Dad and Mom were going to have a fight, soon.
Sam walked with the three children back to the hotel and let Caroline and James walked behind to discuss the situation.
“James, you didn’t shoot Hans did you?”
“Of course not. Why would I do that? Sam and I were out skiing the entire morning. You can ask him.”
“That’s what Washington wants to know; who shot Hans and why.”
“Maybe, they think you shot Hans.”
