Construction began the very next day on the small red house.

Aunt Beatrice had a vision of this old house looking grand

and stately on the Texas landscape.

She stood by the road and watched the trucks move on to the site.

Oh, what a glorious day she thought. This house will be the most

beautiful house in their county.

Sam came by the site and stood next to Aunt Beatrice.

He hugged her and thanked for making a

special home for Christina’s parents.

“You know, Christina would have loved this house.

She had an eye for design, just like you do Aunt B.

Thank you from Bradley and me. This is very special, thank you, again.”

“Now, it’s the least I could do for your son. He’s taken a big step coming

to America without his Mother. I want his Grandparents to feel welcome in Texas.

You know we have big hearts in Texas.”

“Yes, Aunt B., we do.

Now, if you don’t mind, I have to get back to the ranch and do a few chores.”

“Go, go, I’ll stand watch. I do wish they had beer trucks

that deliver beer right to you when you are thirsty.

It’s hot out here in the sun. An old woman could get sun stroke.”

“I’ll go get you a six pack of beer with plenty of ice.”

“Thanks, Sam. That would be refreshing.”

Aunt Beatrice had bought a folding chair to the property

but forgot her hat and her drinks. She figured she wouldn’t stay

long in the hot heat.

After Sam dropped off the beer to Aunt Beatrice,

she settled into her chair. After another hour or so, she was ready to call it quits for the day

when a man stopped by to watch the remodeling process.

“Say, what are they doing to the house?”

Aunt B. turned in his direction and said,

“They are tearing down the old place and building a new house.

Why are you so interested?”

“What happened to the couple that lived there?”

“Well, I take it you are not from around here, are you?”

“No, I was passing through.”

“Mighty strange place to be passing through, I would say.”

“So, is there a new owner?”

“Yes, there’s a new owner. ”

“Oh, really? I beg your pardon, I forgot to introduce myself,

I’m Willy Wilson.”

“Nice to meet you Willy. I’m Beatrice. I live down the road a bit.

Do you care for a beer. They are ice cold.”

“No, thank you. Do you know where I can find the owner of the house?

I would like to buy the place before they start any construction.”

The next day, Grandpa Jesse got in his old truck and drove over to Sam’s

ranch to have a talk with him about improving the old red house.

“Morning, Grandpa Jesse, what brings you out today?”

“Sam, it’s about Aunt Beatrice.”

“She’s OK isn’t she? Nothing happened to her?”

Sam was concerned that maybe, Aunt Beatrice drank too much

and fell down and got injured.

“She’s not injured. She has a bruised ego, that’s all.”

“What?”

“She wants to help you improve the property you bought for your in-laws. I saw the plans last night.

Sam, I must saw they would improve the property greatly.

Give Aunt Beatrice this one last request to pay for the improvements.”

Sam looked at Grandpa Jesse and just shook his head.

“You know, she has been doing so much for our family.

I don’t feel I can let her do any more. It doesn’t seem right.”

“Maybe, it doesn’t seem right to you but she has the money

and wants to contribute. Please grant her that or

she will be a bear to live with at our house.”

“You win, Grandpa. Tell her to go ahead with her plans.”

“Thank you, Sam. I knew you would agree.”

“How long will the construction take?”

“Aunt Beatrice said, three months, so I’m sure that means six months.”

“Where will I put Mary and Jules for six months?

Cinnamon will go crazy if they stay with us.”

“Aunt B. has that worked out already. We have an extra bunk house,

that she will fix up for them to stay in during construction.”

“Sounds like a plan, Grandpa.”

PLANS FOR A NEW HOUSE for Sam’s in-laws were in the works.

One evening after dinner, Aunt Beatrice was sitting on the

front porch, alone, thinking.

It was Summer in Texas, so the days and evenings were hot.

A good place to sit at night was outside.

She was soon joined by Grandpa Jesse.

“What’s wrong with you Beatrice?

You barely said anything at supper tonight.”

“Nothing much, Jesse. You know I want to help Sam and his

in-laws with that old beat up red house that he bought for them.

But, I don’t think they want me to help them.”

“Now, Beatrice why would you said that.

They have always so nice and agreeable

with your ideas in the past.

I can’t believe  that Sam would veto one of your ideas.”

“You know I hired a contractor and designer to improve that old house.

I even showed the plans to Sam and he said no.”

“There must have been a reason.”

“Sam said that I had done enough for him and his family.”

“Well, than, Beatrice, he was being courtesy to you.

He loves you and doesn’t want you to go spend more money.

That sounds reasonable to me.”

“I suppose you are right but will you speak to him about improving the house.

I’m just trying to help.

Please give me that much. I don’t have much else to give.

Let me show you the plans, Jesse.”

Aunt Beatrice shows Grandpa Jesse the elaborate plans to improve

the exterior of the home and the interior.

He was impressed with the detailed drawing of the house.

“OK, Beatrice, I’ll speak to Sam in the morning. By the way,

where will the in-laws stay during the construction?”

“Right here on our ranch. We have an old bunk house.

I could get it ready for them in one day, if I had to.”

“Get the bunk house ready, Beatrice. Now, why don’t we get

some sleep, even though it’s a hot night.”

“Jesse, you go along, I’m going to finish my cocktail.”

Three ladies, consisting of Julia, Cinnamon and Aunt Beatrice,

gathered on the back porch

to discuss the new house

furnishings for Mary and Jules.

I don’t see why you want to furnish their place with second hand furniture,”

Aunt Beatrice asked. “Do we want them to think that is all Texas has to offer?”

“You are right Aunt Beatrice, Texas is better than used furniture. Let’s go all out and buy new.”

“But, Cinnamon, we only have three days,” Julia replied.

“Well, let’s get ordering, time is wasting, ladies.”

“Aunt Beatrice, you always know best.”

“Of course, I do, Julia, I’m older than all of you.

Did someone say, refreshments? I’m thirsty, sitting out here

spending money.”

“Oh, yes, I’ll get the lemonade and tea sandwiches.”

Julia rushed inside to bring out the snacks for the group.

Aunt Beatrice looked around for a stronger type of refreshment

by the outdoor bar.

Ahhh, nothing like a big glass of Chardonnay when shopping.

“Cheers, ladies.”

The small red house wasn’t much to look at from the road but it

would be big enough for Mary and Jules to call home in Texas.

Sam with the help of James and Jesse’s advice purchased the home

with his own money for the Grandparents.

“Sam, you did good. I’m sure they will love this place,” James said.

“I hope they will be happy here, too. Thanks, guys for helping out. Now, I’ll have to get the ladies to buy some furniture and accessories for this place.”

“When are the Grandparents arriving in the States?”

“They should arrive in Dallas in three days, so we have to hurry to get the

house ship shape for them. And James, thanks again for their passports.”

“Hey, Sam, it was not a problem, all in a day’s work for a Congressman.”

“I’m sure they will be happy here,” Jesse replied. “I’ll ask Julia to help gather up any furniture we can give to their new home.

Aunt Beatrice wass looking forward to

meeting them. She hopes they like cocktails.”

Sam was talking with Cinnamon about purchasing a home

for Bradley’s Grandparents; Mary and Jules.

“Sam, I think that’s a wonderful and thoughtful gesture on your part.”

“So, you don’t mind if I purchase the old Ray’s place down the road?”

“No, it will give them a real home here in Texas and an opportunity to

visit Bradley often.”

“Good, than I’ll ask James and Jesse to help me bid at the auction

when the house comes up for sale next week.

I love you, Cinnamon. You have been a good sport about all of this.”

“Sam, I love you.”

Sam and Cinnamon walked into the house together, hand and hand.

They were both smiling.

Aunt Beatrice dropped by Sam’s ranch for a drink at 5 O’clock.

How she loves her cocktails no matter what time it was because

she always says, “It’s 5 O’clock somewhere.”

Sam was happy to serve a drink to his favorite Aunt who

loves to give out money.

“My, My, Sam, who did you bring back from France?”

“Aunt B. this is my son, Bradley. You remember, Christina?”

“Yes, of course, what a lovely woman. Where is she?”

“She was killed in a terrorist attack in Nice.”

“Oh, I’m sorry to here. Come here Bradley and let me tell

you about our family here in Texas.”

Bradley walked over to Aunt Beatrice and sat next to her.

“Is Texas a big place?”

“Yes, it is big.”

Aunt Beatrice and Bradley sat together and she told him all

about Texas and the family. His eyes got big as he politely listen to her.

After she was finished, she looked at Sam and Cinnamon

and said,” You know, since you and that James arrived in Texas

nothing has been the same. A few years ago, there was just

Grandpa Jesse,  Jesse

and me and then wow, the whole world opened up. Kids everywhere.”

” Aunt B. tell me you don’t like it?”

“Sam, we love it. Now tell me where is this boy’s family?”

“The only family he has are two Grandparents,

who live in France and me.”

Sam told Aunt Beatrice that he was hoping to bring

the Grandparents to Texas, soon.

He would be looking for a place for them to live nearby.

Grandpa Jesse walked into the conversation, “Why don’t you but the old Ray’s place, down the road. It’s going up for auction next week.”

“That is a good idea. I’ll check into it Grandpa, thanks.”

Back on the Ranch.

The big black Limousine drove up to James’ ranch in Texas.

The horse gates were an introduction

to Bradley’s new world of Texas.

“Bradley, this is Uncle James and Aunt Caroline’s Ranch.

We are going to drop them off and then we will be going to our ranch.

Don’t worry, it’s close by.”

“Wow, it’s lovely,” echoed Bradley.

The limousine pulled up in front of the ranch and Jimmie-John

came busting out of the front door.

The door of the limo opened to reveal Bradley, his Mother and Cinnamon.

He was surprised to see a youngster, a little older than himself.

Bradley was shy and hid behind Caroline.

“Mom, who’s that?”

“He’s your brother, Bradley, from France.

He will be living with your Dad .”

“When did you pick him up? I didn’t know you had another son, Dad.”

“Come on Jimmie-John, it’s a long story and I’ll tell you over dinner.

Do you want to come over?”

Jimmie-John was very excited and  asked his Mother if he

could go with his Dad, tonight.

Caroline looked at James and James nodded that it was okay.

“Yes, go ahead. We will be over later.”

Jimmie-John didn’t wait for any more talking; he climbed into the

limo and sat next to his new brother.

“Hi. I’m Jimmie-John.”

That started the friendship between the two young boys.

Back home in Texas was where it was all happening for

James, Caroline, Sam and Cinnamon.

WELCOME HOME!

Cinnamon met the group at the Dallas airport in style with

a big black limousine and colorful balloons.

She didn’t know about Sam’s son, Bradley yet but when she saw

a little guy exist the plane, she was delighted.

“Sammy, my love, who is this charming youngster?”

“Cinnamon, this is my son, Bradley.”

“He’s adorable. Nice to meet you, Bradley.”

Cinnamon shook his hand and Bradley responded back to her

with a greeting in French.

“Oh, I see you are testing my French.” Cinnamon picked up the challenge

and spoke to Bradley in perfect French.

James and Caroline laughed along with Sam.

Their fears of Cinnamon accepting Bradley melted way.

Sam kissed Cinnamon and helped her into the limo.

Bradley took a long look at the Dallas airport and said, “This is Texas, Papa?”

“Yes, my son, this is Texas. But wait this is a very big state

with plenty to see along the way.

We have to drive two hours to get to our ranch.”

“That’s OK, I’ll sit next to Aunt Caroline and she will tell me about Texas.”

Cinnamon felt left out, but Sam reassured her that it would

take some time for them to become a real family.

“Bradley, why don’t you sit in the middle of Aunt Caroline

and your step mother, Cinnamon.”

Bradley was polite and he agreed to sit in the middle.

Cinnamon like that very much.

She had to get use to another person around the ranch

who was going to take up Sam’s time.

“Cinnamon, how are you feeling?”

“Caroline, I’m doing fine according to my doctor.

We are still on schedule to have the baby in December.”

Cinnamon told Bradley that he was going to have

a brother or sister in less than six months.

He just nodded his head and looked out the window of the limousine.

Texas was calling them home.

The Agency’s plane was waiting for them at the Nice airport.

James, Caroline, Sam and Bradley were going home to Texas.

France bought them even closer together on this assignment.

Sam was now the proud Father of another son, Bradley.

He had not spoken to Cinnamon and but hoped she

would accept his son as her son, too.

“Papa, we are going to America?”

“Yes, we are going to America. Land of the free and the home of the brave.”

Bradley held his Father’s hand as they boarded the plane.

With each step up the to the plane, Bradley said,

“We are going to Texas, we are going to Texas…”

Caroline laughed as she came up behind him.

They took their seats on the plane.

Bradley wanted Caroline to sit next to him and his Dad. So, she did.

Caroline asked Bradley if he would like to call her Aunt Caroline now.

“Oh, yes, I would Aunt Caroline.”

As he took her hand and held it tight as the plane

raced down the runway for take off

and to his new home in Texas.

THE END
