Construction began the very next day on the small red house.
Aunt Beatrice had a vision of this old house looking grand
and stately on the Texas landscape.
She stood by the road and watched the trucks move on to the site.
Oh, what a glorious day she thought. This house will be the most
beautiful house in their county.
Sam came by the site and stood next to Aunt Beatrice.
He hugged her and thanked for making a
special home for Christina’s parents.
“You know, Christina would have loved this house.
She had an eye for design, just like you do Aunt B.
Thank you from Bradley and me. This is very special, thank you, again.”
“Now, it’s the least I could do for your son. He’s taken a big step coming
to America without his Mother. I want his Grandparents to feel welcome in Texas.
You know we have big hearts in Texas.”
“Yes, Aunt B., we do.
Now, if you don’t mind, I have to get back to the ranch and do a few chores.”
“Go, go, I’ll stand watch. I do wish they had beer trucks
that deliver beer right to you when you are thirsty.
It’s hot out here in the sun. An old woman could get sun stroke.”
“I’ll go get you a six pack of beer with plenty of ice.”
“Thanks, Sam. That would be refreshing.”
Aunt Beatrice had bought a folding chair to the property
but forgot her hat and her drinks. She figured she wouldn’t stay
long in the hot heat.
After Sam dropped off the beer to Aunt Beatrice,
she settled into her chair. After another hour or so, she was ready to call it quits for the day
when a man stopped by to watch the remodeling process.
“Say, what are they doing to the house?”
Aunt B. turned in his direction and said,
“They are tearing down the old place and building a new house.
Why are you so interested?”
“What happened to the couple that lived there?”
“Well, I take it you are not from around here, are you?”
“No, I was passing through.”
“Mighty strange place to be passing through, I would say.”
“So, is there a new owner?”
“Yes, there’s a new owner. ”
“Oh, really? I beg your pardon, I forgot to introduce myself,
I’m Willy Wilson.”
“Nice to meet you Willy. I’m Beatrice. I live down the road a bit.
Do you care for a beer. They are ice cold.”
“No, thank you. Do you know where I can find the owner of the house?
I would like to buy the place before they start any construction.”
